This is a list of those buried around the monument located in K Block of the Evergreen Cemetery, 4414 14th Street, Riverside, CA. There are various other GAR headstones throughout the cemetery but those are not listed here. The number refers to the actual location in GAR, K Block. The area is egg-shaped (the narrow end points eastwards towards 13th St.) with a tall monument in the center. The graves themselves are not in numerical order. There will be a map of K block with the grave numbers later. As time permits, we will be reading these headstones and adding the information to this page. If anyone has additional information on these individuals, not on the headstones or if headstone is not readable, we would like to hear from you and add your information.

Some information listed may be from sources other than the headstone.The burial dates of some individuals are from cemetery records (GAR-K or USWV-K) unless otherwise noted. Some of the burial dates derived from the actual cemetery records and some of those names seem to vary from the cemetery printout vs. the GAR printout and I have added those variations for clarification in case one is "more correct" than the other. All headstones in or near the circle have been read as of August 28, 1999. Those names with no information had no headstone. Some of the headstones for which I have not listed a burial date might be "memorial" stones and the person is not actually buried at Evergreen.

1847-1912, Co. A, 125 NY; buried in GAR-K on 04-22-1912; "On your Evergreen Cemetery page . . . you list Ira N. Sweet. He was my great granduncle. He was injured at Gettysburg, July 2, 1863, by an exploding shell. He was blinded in one eye, spent over a year in hospital, and was disabled for the rest of his life. Around 1927, his son Arthur had a business in Riverside named "Sweet's Clothing, Shoes and Men's Furnishings" at 3781-3789 Main St. In 1931 the name changed to "Sweet's Inc (U. A. Steffenson, H. R.
