Notes for Anna Mae GODDARD

!Notes for Anna: Application for delayed registration of birth for Eva Mowery
states as place of birth for Anna Mae Goddard as Newport, Ohio. In the
Washington Co. Birth Book, she is named Annie Mary.

Family history is that Christian Mowery worked in the oil fields and rveled
from Ohio to Indiana to Illinois following jobs. This accounts for the
scattered birth locations of his children. We don't know when the return of
Anna and her children to Marietta, Ohio occurred, but is is reported that
Christian was ill and Anna took care of him until his death. The 1920
Washington Co., Marieta Cityk census (pg 168) lists Anna M. Mowery as 38 yrs
old, widowed.

At the time of her return, she was financially unable to care for the children
and at least Eva and Edith were temporarily placed in a children's home about
1919. It is uncertain how long they remained in the children's home, but it
could have been as long as two years.
